Tokudaiji Kinari (徳大寺公有)

Kinari TOKUDAIJI (March 7, 1422 - March 11, 1486) was a Kugyo (court noble) during the Muromachi period. He served three emperors, Emperor Shoko (the 101st), Emperor Gohanazono (the 102nd), and Emperor Gotsuchimikado (the 103rd), and advanced to Udaijin (minister of the right) at the rank of Juichii (Junior First Rank). He called himself Gononomiya. His father was Sanemori TOKUDAIJI, Dainagon (chief councilor of state). His mother was the daughter of Motochika JIMYOIN at Emonfu (the headquarters of the outer palace guards). Saneatsu TOKUDAIJI, Daijo-daijin (Grand minister of state), and Kukaku (Kofuku-ji betto (the head priest of Kofuku-ji Temple)) were his sons. A wife of Kinatsu SANJO, Udaijin (minister of the right), a wife of Noriharu HOSOKAWA and a wife of Masamitsu KARASUMARU, Chunagon (vice-councilor of state), were his daughters.

He was conferred to a peerage in 1424. After assuming a post at Konoefu (the headquarters of the inner palace guards), a post in Sanuki Province, a post at Konoefu and a post in Sagami Province, he was appointed to Sangi (councilor), becoming a kugyo in 1437. Later, he was appointed to Dainagon (chief councilor of state) in 1446 after assuming a post in Omi Province and Chunagon. In 1448, he became Zoei Shokei (a high-ranking court noble for construction), and was appointed to a post at Konoefu and a post at Meryo (the section that takes care of the imperial horses) in 1454. In 1460, he was appointed to Naidaijin (minister of the interior), resigned Sakone no daisho (the major captain of the left division of inner palace guards) in the same year, and was appointed to Udaijin (minister of the right) in 1461. In 1464, he resigned Udaijin. In 1466, he was promoted to Juichii (Junior First Rank), and in 1472, he became a priest at the age of fifty-one, leaving the political world.
